Audi brings YouTube on board, in the infotainment system

Thanks to the collaboration between CARIAD and YouTube, the app will be available for all Volkswagen Group brands via the Group Application Store. Videos will play directly in the onboard display when the car is parked.

Charging stops or travel breaks are usually a chance to grab a coffee and stretch your legs, but sometimes it is better to stay in the vehicle, for instance when it is cold or rainy outside. In the latter cases, those on board an Audi will be able to relax while watching YouTube, directly on the display of the car's infotainment system. It is one of the new features available in late 2023 for Audi A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7 Sportback, A8, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT, via the Application Store integrated into the infotainment.

CARIAD and YouTube

CARIAD - the Volkswagen Group's software company - has teamed up with YouTube to make the world's leading video platform, to which more than 500 hours of content are uploaded every minute, available to customers of the Group Brands.

Entertainment

"YouTube now feels like seamlessly built into the vehicle, turning waiting time into entertainment. And this is just the beginning: we will continuously expand the open ecosystem for all the Brands in our Group. With solutions like that, customers experience true value through software integration" said Peter Bosch, CEO of CARIAD, emphasizing the possibilities given by YouTube integration inside the car. "During stops, it will be possible to follow live streams, catch up on news or view different types of content".

Security

The YouTube app in the car works like the one on the smartphone: just install it from the store and it appears in the app grid for selection; those with a premium subscription will be able to access and watch the videos without ads. Obviously, in accordance with Volkswagen Group's high safety standards, videos can only be played when the vehicle is parked.

Group Application Store

YouTube will be the first video platform available for download via the Group Application Store, the application platform shared by all Volkswagen Group Brands. It is managed by CARIAD, which is working together with HARMAN - a Samsung company - to create an open ecosystem with essential and popular apps that can turn the car into a smart travel companion for drivers and passengers. Apps from individual Group Brands, such as those for navigation, traffic information or traffic lights, will also be integrated within this ecosystem.
