Urban mobility and future cities: the mission of SEAT MÓ
Within the Volkswagen Group, SEAT is the leading brand for urban mobility. Its commitment goes beyond cars and is reflected in SEAT MÓ, with a zero emission offering which is capable of meeting the different needs of users. Also making a significant contribution is the SEAT:CODE software development centre.
In 2020, SEAT consolidated its focus on urban mobility and its drive to help design the most sustainable cities of the future with the creation of a new business unit, SEAT MÓ. The Spanish brand is aiming to respond to the new mobility needs of cities, with 100% electric, noise-free, accessible and affordable products and services. And all with an emphasis on young people, including new proposals designed exclusively for them.
The electric scooter
2021 will be an important year for SEAT MÓ: its electric motorbike is set to make its debut in several European countries. The SEAT MÓ eScooter 125 is already on Spanish roads and plays a starring role in the 600-strong motorbike sharing service launched in Barcelona last summer.
In recent months SEAT MÓ has become one of the main operators on the mobility app designed by SEAT:CODE, the company’s digital machine, with more than 50,000 downloads.
The Greek island
The eScooter 125 will also be landing on Astypalea, the location selected by the Volkswagen Group for an ambitious project in partnership with the Greek government: the island will become an example of 100% electric, smart and sustainable mobility. SEAT MÓ electric motorbikes will play an important part in decarbonising transport on Astypalea and the initiative will serve as a pilot programme to develop a model that can later be adapted to other cities.
Sharing at Martorell
At SEAT’s headquarters in Martorell, a sharing service has been implemented so that workers can experience new forms of urban mobility first hand. The company has launched a free sharing service for employees consisting of a fleet of new, mostly electrified cars, together with several eScooters. There are several collection stations located in different parts of the factory, from where workers can reach different areas inside the facilities. Trips made in this way contribute to reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
Digitalisation
In recent years, SEAT has also been making strides in its digital transformation, setting up a software development centre dedicated to mobility solutions: SEAT:CODE. Last year the car manufacturer launched its first software to the market to create a multimedia mobility platform: a technology solution available for iOS and Android which allows users to operate and manage a fleet of vehicles 100% digitally.
Its first practical application was the SEAT MÓ motorbike sharing service, now also available to other companies and operators. And SEAT:CODE is constantly growing; in 2020 alone it completed 33 projects.
In the heart of Barcelona
Both the SEAT MÓ operations centre, CASA SEAT, and the SEAT:CODE headquarters are located in the heart of Barcelona – on the corner of Avenida Diagonal and Paseo de Gracia respectively. This is a straegic hub for designing the mobility of the future, and the ideal city in which to experiment, research and develop urban mobility solutions to be exported to the rest of the world.
