CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept, interior design puts the focus on the driver
The Spanish brand's 100% electric concept car, which anticipates the next series model, reinvents interior space in a new design concept that combines sporty aesthetics with many gaming-inspired details.
The design of a car's interior is always driven by an underlying idea. In the case of the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept, it is to give the feeling that everything revolves around the person behind the wheel - this is the principle the CUPRA team followed in creating an innovative interior design for the 100% electric concept. "The interior is designed to maximize emotions and turn driving into a full on experience", explains CUPRA Design Director Jorge Díez.
New generations
A new design concept that aims to create a world of emotions at your fingertips: "In designing the electric car of the future, we have to change all the established codes and create a car for the drivers of tomorrow", adds Díez. "The new generations were born in a world where the Internet offers instant thrills at the click of a button. Their car must give them that same feeling, through a ground-breaking design that they feel is theirs".
Driver at the center
With this innovative approach, the main guideline for the development of the interior design of the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept has been to put the focus on the driver, creating an asymmetrical space to place them at the center. "At CUPRA we love driving and that is why all the elements are aimed at the protagonist, the driver", Díez continues.
Two of these elements are the dual screens that pop up at the touch of a button: "With these LED displays, those behind the wheel have all the information they need for driving at their fingertips. Together with the Head-Up Display, they make driving the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept a unique emotional experience", adds Díez.
Gaming
Oriented towards the new generation, the interior of the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept has a gaming-inspired aesthetic, with elements that emphasize its value. One of these is the parametric design, enhanced by the use of interior lighting in a way that blends sportiness and videogame culture.
"While designing the interior of the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept, we constantly kept the next generation in mind. So we defined a color palette for the interior lighting that accentuates the link with the virtual world, introducing the color purple and different shades of green, but we also highlighted other interior elements such as the floating console".
Unconventional colors
Unconventional colors also take on new meaning in the sculptural design seats in fluorine color, custom-made using 3D knitting techniques and applying the latest sustainable design technologies.
The central element that characterizes the interior of the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept is the steering wheel, where the two worlds meet once again. "The design of the steering wheel is ground-breaking: the flat bottom gives it a sportier feel, then there is a series of buttons that recall the shapes of controllers", Díez concludes, emphasizing once again how the interior is designed to make the experience on board of the future CUPRA electric city car a pure emotion.
